Once again a very polished show from the society and great fun for cast and audiences.
I have seen this play before but there were many times when I wondered whether I really had seen it previously as so many new innovations and slants on the situations, Chrissie Robertson capitalised on the high standard of CSAODS and the multi-talented cast and she exploited every possible laugh-line (even including a tap dance routine and community singing competition).
As Mrs Reece and other roles, Janet Hignett set the tone of the piece starting with the initial debaucle with the microphone, and the whole episode just continued on cue; always such a complete and disciplined performer. An excellent foil in Gordon from Martin Howard, cannot remember such an intense presence and participation in previous viewings. Nona Gray, as Mercedes complete with neck-brace, stole so many of those perfectly timed comedy touches, experience shows. Mandy Wright (Scrooge) gave a polished all-round performance in this 'title' role, she held her own against competition for attention. And Selina White completed the 'many part' cast with aplomb, certainly this was an excellent and very well balanced playing cast and all attended to general 'unauthorised version' of the play. Add to the high standard of players, a very clever cartoon-like set with most amusing touches, and the semi-choreographed movement thereof by the crew. This was an evening to cheer the dark nights of winter and the audience laughed heartily.
